Basics

It's important to use layers, especially in Death Valley where the weather can change drastically. I like button down shirts with sleeves that can roll up followed by a light fleece, then a light down jacket, and I always carry a waterproof shell in my camera bag. Knee pads can be useful if you plan to shoot at Badwater, off the West Side Hwy, or The Devil's Golf Course. Gaiters are awesome for keeping the sand out of your boots, an inevitable reality if you plan on hiking the Mesquite Dunes for a photo shoot.

Camera Stuff

Be sure to include a remote shutter release or intervalometer, especially if you plan on doing any night photography. I also recommend you bring a power strip, or two. The rooms usually have only a limited number of outlets and you'll want to plug a lot of things in, like your various chargers and power packs.

Food & Drink

If you're staying at the Inn or the Ranch, I like to bring snacks. If there for multiple days, it's nice to supplement your dining with bars and a cooler of drinks, snacks, and sandwich fixings. It will save you some bucks too.
